Karamoja's Highest MountainAn ancient volcano (3,083) raises out of the semi-arid planes of Karamoja forming the highest mountain in the region with numerous peaks offering days of adventure.
People
The mountain is home to the So / Tepeth tribe also living in the western and northern mountains in the region, migrated from the planes when the Karamojong settled in the past. Today they’re agri-pastoralists and cattle is find up to 2500 m. They have a different culture and language than the Karamojong tribe.
Moroto town – Mining city
Moroto town is located at the foothills of the mountain and is known to be the most vibrant town of the Karamoja region. Moroto is a great stopover to refuel body and soul at one of the hotels, guesthouses and little cafe’s. Don’t hesitate to pent 1 day or more for an authentic cultural activity, a visit to the Karamoja Museum and learn more about the mining and mineral industry.

Uganda’s northeastern border of the plateau is defined by a string of volcanic mountains that include Mountains: Morungole, Moroto, Kadam and Napak all of which exceed 2,538 metres in elevation. The southernmost mountain – Mount Elgon – is also the highest of the chain, reaching 4,321 metres.
